Makeup Haul!

I decided this morning that I hadn't been on a makeup haul in quite some time, so I went into Manchester to buy some stuff!

I first went to Boots...

I got a Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (£9.99), which is for "application and blending of cream or liquid foundation" - I suppose it could also be used for blusher and bronzer too, but that's what their packaging says! It is made of synthetic fibres so can be used with liquid, cream, mousse and powder products, whereas natural fibre brushes can only be used with powder products. I haven't yet tried this but when I have, or when I have bought more Real Techniques brushes, I'll do a review post of these. I do actually own one of their other brushes, the powder brush, which is a large fluffy brush that also has synthetic fibres, so you can actually use it for your foundation, but I love that brush, it's so soft, so that's basically why I decided to buy another one! (And I'll definitely be buying them all!)

Staying at Boots, I picked up two of the Maybelline Colour Tattoos (£4.99), which are gorgeous gel-cream eyeshadows. I bought the bronze one ("On and On Bronze") a couple of weeks ago and I loved how it was so pigmented and smooth, so I went today and bought the gold ("Eternal Gold") and a pinky-gold ("Pink Gold" - believe it or not). I thought these were both gorgeous colours, and I thought that the Pink Gold would work great as a base to MAC's Expensive Pink eyeshadow to make it really intense.

My last couple of items at Boots were the Natural Collection blushers. I bought the one in the colour "Peach Melba" a few months back and I thought it was so good considering that they are only £1.99! I'd been meaning to go and get the other colours as I think there is only about 4 or 5 in the full range, but I only ended up getting two, in the colours "Dusky Pink" and "Pink Cloud". Dusky Pink is basically what it says in the name, a dusky, muted pink. I think that this will look really great for quite a soft, sheer colour to the cheeks. Pink Cloud is a soft, candy pink which I think is a lovely girlie colour. Both these blush colours would look lovely on fair to medium skin, though I'm not too sure if they are pigmented enough for medium to dark skin.

So then I went over to Selfridges (my favourite store ever).

I first went to MAC, as always, and I kind of knew what I was going to get when I went there. I bought the Lustre Drops in Pink Rebel. For those of you who may not be familiar with what MAC Lustre Drops is, it is a liquid highlighter, which you put on your cheekbones and brow bone to give your skin a gorgeous glow. They come in two colours, Pink Rebel (a pearly nude-pink) and Sun Rush (golden-nude). I was intending to buy the Sun Rush, but the MUA at the counter suggested that Pink Rebel would be best for my skin tone (I'm fair), as the Sun Rush would probably look better on medium to dark skin rather than fair to medium because it is predominantly gold. I am considering buying the other colour though, just so that I have a couple of different colours to choose from, depending on if I'm a bit more tanned.

Then I bought a MAC 217 blending brush... I think before today I was the only beauty guru not to own one of these brushes! Obviously I haven't used it yet because I've only been back a couple hours, but I've watched extensive amounts of makeup videos and in probably about 98% of the videos, the MUA has used the 217 brush. It is a stiff dome brush which is mainly used for blending but can also be used to apply a lot of shadow onto all of the eye. I can't wait to finally use it!

My final MAC product is the Fix+ Spray. I have also been waiting so long to get this, but I did want to try it out before I went and bought one, so I used my friend Lizzie's before her birthday party and I really liked it. The aim of the product is to keep your makeup lasting longer, but it also works to almost melt the powder and liquid/cream products on your face together to stop it looking cakey. It also leaves the skin with a dewy finish. I am yet to try it out on a day-to-day basis so hopefully it works well!

So my final product from Selfridges is from Illamasqua (still at Selfridges by the way). As I said before, I have watched extensive amounts of makeup videos on YouTube, and a lot of people have really recommended Illamasqua's powder blushes to be really great, really pigmented and feel really great on the skin, so I decided that I would go and buy one today. The colour I bought was "Lover", which they describe as 'soft apricot', but I would probably describe it as a peachy-pink. It is a matte finish blush which is great for me because with anything too shimmery, my pores become very noticeable which does not look great at all! As I said about the Natural Collection Blushes and the MAC Lustre Drops, this blush would look so nice on fair to medium skin, but it is way too light and peachy for medium to dark skin.

So that's that, I hope you enjoyed reading about my little makeup haul!
I hope you are staying happy and healthy and enjoying the new year!
Lots of love
Emily XO
