The Red Lip Edit

A red lip is a classic and staple makeup look - it’s great for going from day to evening, can have day and evening variations, plus it will suit everyone depending on the tone of red you choose.

The red lipstick that got me into wearing red lipstick is MAC’s lipstick in Russian Red. This is a gorgeous blue toned red that is perfect for a vintage/retro kind of look. The matte formula stays put all day long, even more so when paired with a red lipliner underneath (I like using Rimmel’s 1000 Kisses Lipliner in Red Dynamite).

After hearing such great things about the Rimmel Kate Moss Lipsticks, I really wanted to try one, and so I ended up buying the matte shade of 107, which is a red with a sort of plummy tone to it. These have a lovely formulation and though matte, is not drying at all.

For another number from MAC, I absolutely love their lipstick in Lady Danger. You may think “why does she need two red lipsticks both from Mac?” Well, aside from my obsession from them, this is majorly dissimilar from ‘Russian Red’; it is a bright orange-red, again in a stay-put-all-day matte finish.

MAC again (I love Mac Lipsticks, don't you know?!) - their lipstick in Viva Glam I. It has a tad bit of brown to it, making it ever so similar to Mac Chili, however Viva Glam I is much better to buy because all the money from it goes to the MAC Aids Fund!

And the final one on my line up is this Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Rose Passion. This, I think, is quite similar to MAC's MAC Red but with a glossier finish, and for a lot cheaper! These feel so lovely and nourishing on the lips, however, because it's quite a soft formula, it definitely needs a lip liner underneath, and again, i'll use the Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in Red Dynamite underneath it, just so it stays put and has something to grip to.

Makeup Removal: Purity vs Micellar Solution

When it comes to “lazy”(ish) makeup removal, my go to was always my Purity Cleanser from Philosophy, a better alternative than wipes. A small amount applied to a cotton pad would remove all my makeup, which includes destroying that annoying stubborn Maybelline mascara that just does not want to leave my lashes, without tugging or having to scrub my skin so hard that the thin delicate skin around my eyes will be left sore and horrible (trust me, this has happened with wipes in the past, thats why I love Purity because it takes it off so easily!)

However, I’ve actually found something that I think I may in fact like more than Purity, oooo. It’s the L’Oreal Micellar Water. Sounds scary, I know, but if you haven’t heard of this product, it is a cleansing water, to say the least, that is used as a makeup remover, and is apparently a dupe of the ever critically acclaimed Bioderma which is near enough impossible to buy in the UK.

Anyway… I always thought such good things of Purity, because after finding out that wipes are terrible for your skin (apparently so…) I bought a cleansing balm but sometimes it’s just wayyyyyy too much effort running water and taking your makeup off that way, so I got Purity so that I could just take it all off with a cotton pad for lazy days (i.e. most days).
I decided to try out L’Oreal’s Micellar Solution FINALLY after wanting it for sooooo long, and let us just say it is makeup removal revolutionary. Takes it off way easier than Purity does and never stings, as Purity sometimes does around the eyes.

Don't get me wrong, I do love both, however L'Oreal definitely beats Philosophy here.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser retails for £8 (90ml)/£17.50 (236ml)/£28.50 (471ml) and L'Oreal Skin Perfection Micellar Solution retails for £4.99, both available from Boots.com and larger Boots stores

Polished: The Mint Glitter Accent

A post about something that doesn't go on my face, oh wowee, hahahaha.

Yep, it's been instagrammed, you know the drill.

I really liked this nail combination so I just had to blog it! It's using the B. Complete Long Lasting Nail Polish in Sea Foam which is a gorgeous mint shade. I then applied Barry M Glitter Nail Paint in Rose Quartz Glitter as an accent finger on my ring finger - just something a bit more interesting than all the same colour.

Naked Love

Did you know that Urban Decay have released their third instalment to the 12-shade naked palette range? If not, then I don't know where you'd been the past month or so, because this has to be the most talked about product in the blogosphere in a very long time!

I love love love my original naked palette, theres so much that you can do with it with such a large range of colours, so when I found out they were releasing number 3, I was ecstatic. But with my unconditional love for the original Naked palette, I do have to say that the Naked 3 has in fact not overtaken the original. Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely beautiful,  but some of the colours didn't pay off as well as I expected they would do. All of the shadows in the original are super pigmented, no exceptions, but I found that "Dust" from the Naked 3 just looked like glitter when applied to my lid (no actual proper colour substance to it) and "Darkside" took rather a while to show up (I had to apply a lot to get the desired colour).

I'm not ruling this out at all. I do still really like it (I mean, look at it, it's beautiful), but I just prefer the original because I think you can do a lot more with it than you can with the 3.

What do you think of the Urban Decay Naked 3?
Have you tried any of the Naked Palettes?

My Mac Lipstick Collection

Yes, I know, one person does not need to own this many Mac lipsticks, but let us be honest, once you start, you can't stop. I love Mac lipsticks and they are such a good present for people (as my dear friend Emily will agree).

(Left to right) Pink Plaid, Dark Side, Myth, Ravishing, Impassioned, Twig
The first shade I ever bought was "Pink Plaid" - it is described as "dirty blue-pink" and is in a matte finish. I haven't worn this in sooooooo long.

"Dark Side" is simply described as "deep burgundy" and is in the amplified creme finish. I've only just become a fan of dark lipsticks on me, so considering how long I've had this (nearly two years), at the time it was a bit of a waste.

"Myth" is a shade that I'm not too fond of anymore. I don't suit beige nudes (this is a described as "light neutral nude) and so I don't get any wear out of this no longer.

"Ravishing" is a perfect springtime colour. Mac describe it as "clean light peachy coral". I love wearing this with Mac's Expensive Pink eyeshadow (as shown HERE).

"Impassioned" is the shade that got me into wearing bright lip colours. I don't wear this as much any more, but it's a fantastic "amped-up fuchsia", in the amplified finish.

"Twig", alike Dark Side, is a shade that I don't actually understand why I bought. The day I bought it, I was so desperate to buy something from Mac that I just bought the first thing that I saw, which ended up being this. I'm not really one for brownish-pink lipsticks, so the few times I've worn this, I've worn it with a bright pink gloss over the top. Don't ask why. I have no idea.

(From left to right) Russian Red, Lady Danger, Viva Glam Nicki, MAC Red, Hue

"Russian Red" is a gorgeous blue toned red in a matte finish. Because it's a matte finish, it lasts all day long, and the colour is superb for a retro inspired look.

"Lady Danger" would probably have to be my favourite Mac lipstick shade. It's so wearable, and is perfect for evening, day, winter and summer. Mac describe it as "vivid bright coral red" in a matte finish. I mentioned it here in my "Top 5 of 2013".

I haven't worn "Viva Glam Nicki" in so long because it's a very summery colour; it is a bright yellow-pink in a satin finish and it's the perfect summer colour because of how bright it is. Nevertheless, I'm determined to find a way to make it work for winter also!

"Hue" is the shade that I wore at prom (mixed with Creme D'Nude). It is described as "soft pale pink" in a Glaze finish. It's the perfect every day colour, that is also perfect for pairing with a smokey eye, because it's a nude but a very pinky nude.

"Mac Red" is in fact one of two lipsticks I ended up picking up for free due to Mac's "Back to Mac" campaign as such. It's described as "vivid bright bluish red" in a satin finish. With it being a satin finish, it doesn't tend to be as drying on the lips as a matte lipstick can be, so if you find Russian Red or Ruby Woo very drying, this is a great alternative.

(From left to right) Viva Glam I, Diva, Girl About Town, Lickable, Creme Cup
An accidental purchase when buying brush cleanser was "Viva Glam I". This is an "intense brownish blue-red" in a matte finish. I bought this because it looked very similar to Mac's "Chili", however because it's a Viva Glam shade, all the money goes to the Mac AIDS fund, so I felt better for buying the Viva Glam rather than a normal shade because I'm doing good.

The second free lipstick because of Back To Mac is "Diva", an "intense reddish burgundy" in a matte finish. I'm yet to try this properly but I'm very excited to try it because it looks gorgeous.

One of two Christmas presents from Mac is "Girl About Town"; described as "bright blue fuchsia" in the amplified creme formulation. I was originally going to buy this when I bought "Impassioned", but at the time I wasn't too much of a fan of blue-toned pinks, but now I am.

The second Christmas present Mac lipstick is the shade "Lickable", a "bright clean blue pink" in a cremesheen formula. This is very similar to "Girl About Town", but they do differ ever so slightly however.

As a little treat off my mum, I got the shade "Creme Cup". This is described as "light blue pink" in the creme sheen formula. This is very similar to my Topshop Lipstick in Innocent, which is a little pinker  Like "Hue", this is a perfect daytime colour plus a perfect smokey eye colour too.

(From left to right) Pink Plaid, Dark Side, Myth, Ravishing, Impassioned, Twig, Viva Glam I, Lady Danger, Viva Glam Nicki, MAC Red, Hue
(From top to bottom) Viva Glam I, Diva, Girl About Town, Lickable, Creme Cup

Mac lipsticks on my wish list?

Sandy B; "Light shell pink" (Frost finish)
Morange; "Loudmouth orange"
Plumful; "Blossoming rose plum" (Lustre finish)
Angel; "Soft pink" (Frost finish)

Mac Lipsticks retail for £15 and are available HERE

Mac Haul

Considering I haven't actually bought anything from Mac in quite a while, I haven't spent as much as I could have (believe me, I could very easily spend £500 at MAC!!), but here are the few things I bought recently!

The first thing was the Face and Body Foundation in the shade N1 (£21.50). Now, I already own one shade of this (C3) however it's way too dark for me, so I thought that if I bought the lightest shade they do, then I can mix in however much of C3 to N1 for my skin colour at the time I use it, because I hear such great things of Face and Body but I've only used mine once because of the shade, so finally I can use it!

Next is the pigment in Tan (£17). This is the first pigment of Mac's that I've bought, as it was recommended to me by Kirsten. This is absolutely beautiful!!

Eyeshadows pro palette refill pans, £10 each; Clockwise: Mythology, All That Glitters, Satin Taupe, Greensmoke
And the final items are some eyeshadows to go into my pro palette, not that I need anymore... I bought "Mythology" (copper), "All That Glitters" (beige with gold pearl), "Satin Taupe" (taupe with silver shimmer) and "Greensmoke" (tarnished olive). I can't wait to use all of these because I love Mac Eyeshadows so much!

Well that it is all! I'd love to have bought way way more, but all this cost me quite a lot, haha. Keep an eye out on my blog in the next couple of weeks for Mac Lipstick Collection and Mac Eyeshadow Palette posts!

Wish List #1

I know I know, it's only like two weeks or so since Christmas, but I've already got my eye on some things that are going on my wish list...

John Lewis | £14.75
Now from what I can gather, this is the same kind of thing as the No7 Hot Cloth Cleanser (mentioned HERE). You apply it all over the skin and then buff off using the muslin cloth. I've heard very good things about this, and considering I'm trying to look after my skin a bit better now, this I think will be a great buy.

Benefitcosmetics.co.uk | £23.50
My dear friend Georgi uses this, and I saw her using it at our college show and her brows always just look amazing, so I want this to hopefully make my brows look like that too!

Selfridges | £26
You know I'm a lover of contouring (post HERE), and this kit just looks great. I'm a massive fan of Illamasqua, and a massive fan of contouring, so it's great whenever I can get my hands on something that is used for contouring.

EVERYDAY EYESHADOWS

Most people tend to just keep their eyeshadow neutral for daytime (if anything at all, that is), and though I usually do something a bit more dramatic even in the daytime, there are times that I do go neutral and plainish. Here are a small roundup of some of my favourite everyday eyeshadows, ranging from drugstore to high end.

MAYBELLINE EYESTUDIO MONO EYESHADOW IN 610 SILKEN TAUPE
Boots.com | £4.09
This is a gorgeous taupe shade in a pearl finish (as so described my Maybelline) and it has a slight amount of shimmer to it, so it's not fully matte and boring. I would pair this with a brown or black eyeliner and mascara.

L'OREAL COLOUR APPEAL SOLO EYESHADOW IN 152 PLATINUM BEIGE
Boots.com | £5.99
This shadow from L'Oreal is ever so slightly gold, but more of a muted gold because it is very neutral. This also has a slight amount of shimmer to it too, more than the maybelline though, though it still is daytime appropriate and so is not super sparkly.

MAC EYESHADOW IN PATINA
Maccosmetics.co.uk | £10 (for the pro palette refill pan)
You know my love for Mac eyeshadows, I don't need to explain this one. "Patina" is described by Mac as "taupe brown with golden pearl". This is a great everyday eyeshadow paired with a brown liner, but can also be transformed for the evening too, with a brown shadow through the crease and outer corner and a black liner.

MAYBELLINE COLOUR TATTOO IN PERMANENT TAUPE
Boots.com | £4.99
Alike the Mac eyeshadow, you also know of my love for these. They are amazinggggggg. This (and the Pink-Gold shade) is really the only everyday colour that they do in the line, because the others are quite intense and bright. These are fantastic because they stay put all day long and don't budge. With this shade, you can create a really quick and easy smokey eye, by applying it lightly all over the lid, and then applying another layer, so it's more intense, to the outer corner of the eye.

URBAN DECAY NAKED BASICS
Debenhams | £20
I've mentioned this before (HERE), but I absolutely love it!! It's perfect for two things: for an everyday eye (it's main purpose for this post), but also for combining with other eyeshadow palettes that just have a couple of colours (like my NARS eyeshadow duos). For a daytime look, I'll use the shade "Foxy" all over my lid, then using a small domed brush, I'll apply "Naked 2" and then "Faint" through my crease. Then I'll use "Venus" as an inner corner & brow highlight. Finish off by using a brown liner on the top lash line and a sweeping of mascara.

TRIED AND TESTED: YSL ROUGE VOLUPTE LIPSTICK

I mentioned the YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick (shade 34) in THIS post, and after trying it just a couple times, I wanted to write a mini review type thing on it.

Now I do believe these have been out for quite a while, but I only got one at the end of last month, as recommended by my friend Kirsten, as well as seeing it in quite a few people's videos.
First of all, the packaging. Oh wow. I know, it's about the actual product, but just look how chic it looks! But anyway, the actual product. Though it's a lipstick, it feels like a gloss when it's on the lips. But it still has the same pigmentation of a lipstick (i know it is, but you know what I mean). It is SO lovely and though the rather large price tag (in comparison to Mac or drugstore lipsticks), it is definitely worth it, and I will definitely buy more!!

YSL Rouge Volupte Lipsticks are priced at £24.50 and are available here.

Beauty Combo #2: Bronzed & Contoured

This is a little trick I learnt off my lovely friend Kirsten in THIS tutorial. It makes your contouriness (no, that isn't a word, I know) look more natural and sun kissed, I suppose. I love doing this as the bronzer also blends out the contour a bit without losing the colour, to refrain from having a straight block line of colour.

So I'll first start off using the contour shade in my Sleek Face Form Kit in the shade Fair (£9.99). On a Real Techniques Contour Brush (from the Core Collection, £21.99), I'll apply this to the hollows of my cheeks. I'll then take my Rimmel Sun Shimmer Bronzer in Light Shimmer (£5.61) and apply this using my Real Techniques Powder Brush (£9.99) and apply this over the top of the contour to soften it, and take it up to the temples and on my jawline.

TOPSHOP SMOKEY EYE GIFT SET

I picked up this gift set from Topshop the other day as I had a gift card from Christmas for there.
The set includes:
- eyeshadow palette in "Golden Aura": the palette includes dark brown, medium brown, taupe and creamy-beige shades.
- Kohl eyeliner in Coal
- "3D Curve Mascara"

This cute set has everything you need to make a smokey eye, makes a perfect gift and is great value for money at just £22 (plus, if you're a student like me then you can get 10% student discount too!).

And here is a look that I came up with using this set:

I applied the lightest shade from the palette all over my lid, then applied the taupe shade all over the lid too but avoiding the inner corner. I then used the warm brown shade on the outer corner and through the crease. To define the crease even more I applied the darkest shade through the crease, just on the outer corner, and blended it out.
I then used the eyeliner from the set on my top lash line and bottom lash line, blending it at the bottom using the taupe shade. To finish off I used the mascara from the set on both my top and bottom lashes.
For the rest of my face, I used the Hydra Veil primer and Skin Base Foundation, Revlon ColourStay Concealer, Benefit Hoola Bronzer for the contour, Mac Soft And Gentle for a highlight and on my lips I'm wearing a combination of Mac Creme Cup and Topshop Innocent.

Budget Beauty Edit #2: Top Picks Under £5

It's nearly two weeks since Christmas, which means our wallets are a tad tight. I bring you an edit of some wallet-friendly budget beauty picks that are under £5, perfect for the post-Christmas poorness (or just when you want a bargain).

Boots.com | £4.29
Probably the best concealer (and the cheapest) I've ever used. Thick enough to cover blemishes, thin enough for under-eye circles.

Boots.com | £3.99
I've been using this powder for sooooo long now, because I really don't feel the need to spend so much on a setting powder when this does the job for less than £4. You can tell from the picture that this is certainly very loved, because you can't even see the writing on the lid anymore.

Boots.com | £4.99
Yes, I know, I've mentioned these SO many times because they're just amazing. I have 7 colours of these now, this one in the image is "24K Gold" which I haven't actually used yet as I only got it a couple weeks ago in my December Glossybox. These are absolutely brilliant because they're super pigmented, stay put all day long and don't crease, plus come in a tonne of colours (however, I do wish they would bring a colour out that's similar to Mac's Painterly Paint Pot!).

Superdrug | £5
This is the primer that got me back into using primers again. I hadn't tried anything from this brand, and considering it is so cheap, I didn't really have high hopes for it. However I absolutely love it! It leaves the skin feeling smooth and creates a great base for applying your foundation and concealer.

One Year (ish) of Blogging

I say “ish” because I did start my blog longer ago than you can find posts (I deleted them because they were pretty crap, not going to lie). I class January 2013 as the start of blog because that’s when I decided to write about beautyness, rather than random rubbish, and as that’s the main thing I want to write about.. yeah… I honestly have no idea where I’m going with this!
But anyway… I’ve definitely found a love for writing on this blog since last January. Though I don’t get the followers and views that some more established bloggers get, I believe that everything starts off small, and I’m hoping that by next January I’ll really have been able to build my following!
However, thank you ever so much to the regular readers of my blog, I do hope that you are continually enjoying my content, and please remember than I am open to ideas of things you’d like me to write about!
Lots of love xoxox

Post Christmas Purchasing

Post-Christmas sales + Christmas money = more makeup for Emily.

The first two items aren’t actually purchases, they are actually presents, but I wanted to include them because I love them both — I was going to write a separate post with makeup Christmas presents however I only ended up getting these two after all, but anyway, enough rambling…

Debenhams | £20
I’ve been wanting the Naked Basics for so long now, but it’s just been one of those items that I’ve always had my eye on but I’ve just never ended up getting round to buying.

Topshop | £12
This was gift (that I chose myself, mind you) off my bestest chummy Kirsten. I'm a big fan of Topshop makeup, though I only own two lipsticks and now this, so I was super excited to use this. The eyeshadows are gorgeous. The maroony shade on the far left is a very deceiving colour, because when swatched it looks exactly the same as in the pan, but when blended onto the eye on top of the middle shade, it looks a brownish shade.

Then for some (but not all of) my personal purchases...

Narscosmetics.co.uk | £25

This is the second NARS eyeshadow duo to my collection (mentioned my other one here). The colour to the left is a light champagne colour, and the shade on the right is a pale gold colour. I've only worn this once so far, and I applied the shade on the left all over my lid, and then the shade on the right in the outer third of my eye; I also used the shade "Faint" from the Naked Basics (a medium brown shade) through the crease to deepen it ever so slightly.

Narscosmetics.co.uk | £25

I originally intended to buy "Orgasm" as it's less sparkly than Super Orgasm which i ended up buying, but it's still really lovely. I thought it would be more pigmented than it is, as it's quite sheer. It is still really nice though.

YVES SAINT LAURENT ROUGE VOLUPTÉ LIPSTICK IN 34
Boots.com | £24.50

I finally bought a YSL lipstick!! I've been wanting one for so long, 1. because i've heard that they're really good, and 2. mainly because the packaging looks AMAZING. I'm super excited to try this!!

MAC LIPSTICK IN CREME CUP
Maccosmetics.co.uk | £15

A little treat off my mum, bless her. I looked online the night before for this lipstick and it wasn't there so I gathered they'd discontinued it, but then I saw it in store the day I bought this and I was ever so please. This is a gorgeous light pink nude shade which is a perfect everyday shade, or the perfect shade to go with a smokey eye.

COLLECTION GLAM CRYSTALS GLITTER LINER IN ROCK CHICK
Superdrug.com | £2.99

This is my third of these now. This is a black liner with silver glitter speckles in it. I love these because they're so multipurpose, plus how cheap they are!

L'OREAL CARESSE LIPSTICK IN 203 ROCK 'N' MAUVE
Boots.com | £7.99

I wanted to branch out, in terms of lipstick colours, a little bit by going for a purplish lipstick. The colour reminds me of Mac Up The Amp actually, but i'd rather see if I like that kind of colour on me by spending a little less than Mac lipstick price.

Aspirations (as so to speak) for 2014

I feel like things are going to change a lot this year, so I thought I’d document and share them here with you all!

1. Change my diet!!
For those of you that don’t know, I’m actually a dance student, and as a dancer I should be a healthy eater, however I’m in fact not at all. I had a chat with one of my teachers a couple of weeks ago about why I keep feeling sick during morning warm-ups, and she said it’s all down to my diet, breakfast especially! I also am in desperate need of cutting down on fizzy drinks (let us just say that the addiction is worse than my makeup addiction, oops).

2. Go to Clothes Show Live
Yes, I know, it’s 11 months away, but December 2013’s Clothes Show and blogger’s coverage on it made me realise that this year I actually need to go!

3. Go to London for mine and Kirsten’s 18th
This is definitely a long shot, but we’re definitely going to try. My blogger/youtuber chummy Kirsten and I want to celebrate our 18th birthdays later this year by going to London in October half term. It will be such a great couple of days, however not so good for our bank balances (the original Selfridges, Topshop, Oxford Street, Westfield… you can see where I’m going with this)

4. Decide what I actually want to do with my life
I have so many ideas of what I want to do in the future, and with my love for blogging appearing in the past few months, plus social media in general from my current job, as well as my original love of dancing, all those have just baffled my mind in the past few months of what I really want to do in the future after college.

5. Buy a fancy designer handbag
This year, I’m going to take the plunge. No matter how much it sets me back.

6. Buy a fancy designer pair of shoes
Same as above. I’m 18 in September, by then I’ll be mature enough to look after designerness. Yup.

7. Actually make an effort with my fashion blog
I made it for a reason, let's actually make use of it.

8. Pass my driving test within the first half of this year
I’ve been taking lessons since the beginning of November, and I want to pass my test by June at the latest!

9. Become more responsible and independent
Since starting college, I definitely have become more independent, but I feel I need to more so. I feel like I’m always relying on others.

What do you want to achieve this year?

P.S. Don't worry, I will be back with beauty related posts very soon (i.e. tomorrow, woo)!! I just wanted to do some more personal/lifestyle kind of posts for the new year, I hope you don't mind!
